The day I became a Makati girl and lost my Southern privileges

January 23, 2012 - the first time I entered Makati and became an official Makati chic! Oh wait, I'm married. The day was gloomy and my emotions were in a flurry - melancholic happiness. I'd lie if I told you that I don't enjoy living in Makati now, and that I miss the heavy toll fees and the fantabulous traffic that helps you recollect your day and all the things you could be doing instead of staring at a tinted car window covered in bus belch.

They say that to move in, you need:

1) An image of Mother Mary
2) Holy Water
3) Rice - uncooked
4) Coins
5) Candle
6) Round fruits

Well, we did all this and we prayed and threw coins and entered our apartment with a lighted candle. Sweet gesture to our new home and we prayed that this home would treat us right.

Despite all the difficulties, living in our own place helped me cope with married life a lot. We worry about the same things and we work on saving enough to pay all our monthly dues. The weight of life is becoming easier to bear.

I know in my heart, this home will make a lot of memories. I know this home has the power to change my life. It already has.

Makati suits me, I guess.
